Excellent hospital, thanks to all the hard working staff at the maternity ward - they took great care of us.
Had a good go at cutting my arm off with a chainsaw today. Thank you to every single member of staff who dealt with me. I was only there for a few hours but appreciate everything you did for me, it was a first class, excellent, faultless, friendly, impeccable and professional service.
Nursing staff are excellent and attentive although some of the consultants are a little blunt in their approach. They need to be more sensitive when discussing life changing issues with patients. Generally there is a calm atmosphere on the wards. Buildings could benefit from an update as they are rather tired in places. Food is very repetitive. Menus do not change. If you are in long term try using the upstairs cafe. Free WiFi is a joke. If you can get connected then you are lucky. Obviously I prefer the NHS to spend their budget on the medical side but when you have been in hospital 5 weeks you do become critical of things that appear trivial to short stay patients. Overall this is a really good hospital. Much better than Brighton or Eastbourne.
I have had a wisdom tooth removal operation diaried since an initial dentist referral for the best part of 1 and half years. I get various pre-ops etc and finally get a date. The day before the appointment is due I get told that the appointment is cancelled because there is an emergency appointment that takes priority. The NHS is a shambles, how can you be that understaffed that there are no other surgeons available to take on a simple 20 minute procedure! I took time off work and prepared my meals in advance and prepared asked a family member to take time off to give me a lift. I appreciate life threatening emergencies take priority over this dental ops but there needs to be a better plan in place than to cancel less than 24 hours in advance and then not give another appointment for months! A JOKE
Had to take my 9 year old daughter to the hospital today and I came away massively impressed by the way it was run. Everyone I came into contact with was friendly, efficient and helpful. This applied to the receptionists, the doctors, the support staff and even the cafe and car park staff. It was my daughter's first trip to A and E, so I was particularly inpressed by the gentle way the doctor (Portia) dealt with her.
