I am a member of the Clapham Chasers tri club and we have just returned from a weekend at Firle Yurts. We booked the site exclusively and it was perfect for our needs. The Yurts are placed in a stunning setting, perfect for some sundowners with gorgeous countryside views. The two main bell tents are lovely and made a good base for us to eat, play music and chill out although Breakfast al fresco in the little outdoor kitchen was a lovely way to start the day too. From the yurts we were able to get out on the South Downs for some stunning running and cycling which is all easily accessible. The sleeping tents are basic but perfect for our needs and really youre only sleeping in them. The toilet and shower facilities were kept clean and met our needs (there were 40 of us and the facilities coped!) Louisa and Steve were extremely helpful and accommodating and I would definetely recommend a stay at their Yurts!
We were an extended family, ranging in age from 9 months to seventies, and we had a wonderful time Glamping for two nights during a heatwave at Firle. Its an absolutely magical location - a secret valley. The remoteness which protects the National Park made it feel like a real adventure - we were collected in the truck and ferried across. And its breathtaking - right in the lee of the Downs. James, Louisa and Steve could not have been more friendly and helpful. The big yurts are lovely - we werent in them much because of the incredible weather but they would be invaluable in normal English weather. The bell tents comfortable with great battery powered candles - so atmospheric. Kitchen well kitted out - showers under the trees were particularly good - powerful and hot, which was unexpected. Lovely that the water comes from the spring so you can drink it. Nicer than London water! Fire pit fab, chairs tables etc great. We were lucky to have site to ourselves, sharing kitchen would change things a bit bit I guess, though there are two fire pits well separated from eachother so could still feel private. Loos fine but we had site to ourself and might be a bit basic if the site was full. We walked to Charleston in fifteen mins, fabulous tea garden (with peacocks!) ten mins away. Notes: because its quite high up it suddenly got very cold at night - even in heatwave, so take proper bedding! Theres a subtle electric fence to help keep the sheep away - its a very long way from tents but they kindly turned it off because we had a disobedient toddler with us. If you have one too, ask in advance! Thank you so much. We absolutely loved it and will come back with friends.
We have just had a wonderful weekend Glamping at Firle Yurts, on one of the hottest weekends of the year. We booked the site for exclusive use for a weekend celebration of two 70th birthdays the ten bell tents occupied for two nights and an additional group, by agreement with the owners, and at a cost, invited for lunch on Sunday. Those staying ranged in age from 80 to just a few months, with a similar profile for the day visitors. This was not a cheap weekend by any means, but we were lucky with the weather and had a great time. Things to like: a beautiful and secluded site, surrounded by trees on three sides, and with grassy slopes leading up to the top of the Downs; wonderful views from the entrance back down the hill and over the flat plains to the north of the Downs; comfortable bell tents; wonderful and spacious double yurts, furnished with carpets, sofas and armchairs; a well-equipped kitchen area, with gas stove, running water, and plenty of crockery and cutlery; two enormous cool boxes, with ice supplied (at a price); two fire pits, with additional barbecues and with logs and charcoal supplied (at a price); lots and lots of tables, benches, and picnic chairs; two hot showers; two reasonable loos; a generator (which we didnt use); caring and competent staff, including in making arrangements and dealing with special requests before the event; plenty of space to play games, build rope bridges etc . . .; complete privacy. Steve, who was really friendly and helpful, ferried us up and down again with all our stuff in his 4x4, and popped in next day to clean & check the loos. Things not to like? Very little. A shaded area during the heat of the day would have been nice, although there was plenty of shade under the trees in the afternoon. Some people didnt like the loos. We thought a more powerful gas stove would have been good. Some glamping sites provide bedding, which this one did not. We did wonder what it would have been like if it had rained, especially the ten minute walk up the hill from the parking area but, hey, it didnt. Also, we were glad we had exclusive use. All in all, we recommend this site very highly.
Great location, yurts and tents first rate facilities were adequate for party of over 100 on the day events. Porraloos are unfortunately probably inevitable and basic, but that apart the open space is set in a pastoral scene, hidden away from traffic, a playground for youngsters, a camping experience. Steve and his assistant were both thoughtful and helpful confirming the generosity of the site.
I've just returned from a wonderful weekend at Firle Yurts. We had an amazing time in what is a truly magical location! Louisa, Steve and Will were really accommodating and helped make the whole experience run smoothly. Highly recommended.
